In this article we will learn how to Add three fractions with Unlike Denominators, I going to teach you step by step method by using question solution.
How to Add Three Fractions with Unlike Denominators
Lets start with three fraction whose denominators are not same.
1. Add three fractions with Unlike denominators |
Let's solve above question:
To Add three fractions we need a common denominator, so we find the LCM (Least Common Multiple) of denominators 5, 3, 15 respectively. Hence the LCM of three denominators is 15 that will be the common denominator for all three fractions.
2.Add three fractions with Unlike denominators |
Now we analyse the first denominator 5, we found out that 15 comes in 5's multiple three times as 5*3 = 15. So we keep that 3 and multiply it with the first fraction's numerator 2, that will be 2*3 = 6.
Then we analyse the second denominator 3, we found out that 15 comes in 3's multiple five times as 3*5 = 15. So we keep that 5 and multiply it with the second fraction's numerator 2, that will be 2*5 = 10.
Then we analyse the third denominator 15, we found out that 15 comes in 15's multiple one time as 1*15 = 15. So we keep that 1 and multiply it with the third fraction's numerator 3, that will be 3*1 = 3.
3.Add three fractions with Unlike denominators |
Now we add those three numbers (6, 10, 3) as numerator and the denominator is 15. After adding numerators the Resultant Numerator will be 19 and denominator will be 15.
4.Resultant Fraction of three fractions with Unlike denominators |
Now we are going to convert common fraction into mixed fraction for better result. First we have to divide 19 by 15.
Convert Improper Fraction into Mixed fraction |
The result or Quotient of division will the the whole number and Remainder is Numerator of Improper fraction and divisor is Denominator of Fraction.
